This is a New Master aimed at training of graduate students with bachelor degree or master degree.

The only one available Master in Genetic Counsellors and Nurses in Italy!

The overall objective of the program is to educate master level candidates as genetic counsellors through the acquisition of the principles and practice of Clinical and Medical Genetics and Laboratory.

Psychosocial issue of Genetic, Interpersonal skills and competence in Management of Genetic Counselling are essential aspects.

At the end of the Master, the candidate must be able to support the medical geneticist in the main areas of genetic counselling and can conduct counselling when a clinical valutation of the patient and/or a clinical diagnosis is not required. Among these there are the genetic prenatal counselling, the pre-conception and infertility genetic counselling and the cancer genetic counselling.

The training program lasts 2 year and it engages the student for part-time. Formal lessons will be held in Siena and will be scattered throughout the year in order to facilitate Master candidates.

Lessons are organized in different main areas: Propedeutics, Non Syndromic and Syndromic Intellectual Disabilities, Microdeletion/microduplication syndromes, Cancer Genetics, Organ-specific genetic conditions, Prenatal genetic counselling, Management of genetic syndromes, Management of gentic counselling, Counselling skills, Psichosocial skills.

725 hours (a ~60 days per year) of the course will be spent in genetic counselling. Students will have the opportunity to move in different training places depending on their particular interest (prior approval of the Master Board). The internship will consist in the participation and in the conduct of active sessions of genetic counselling.

Considering the International demands, the Master was amended to include the use of the English language, the ability to follow the formal lectures by teleconference.
